Or rather Scala dei Turchi, as the photos tell us. The bay around Scala dei Turchi offered the Arab pirates a perfect sheltered spot against the strong winds. They moored their ships there and climbed up the natural "steps" of the cliff face to plunder the nearby Sicilian villages (such as Realmonte).
